Saint Veronica is one of five Saints painted for a private commission.
This artwork depicts her holding the cloth she used to wipe the face of Jesus as he carried the cross to Calvary, after she bravely broke through the soldiers to reach him, and then faithfully looked up at our Savior.
She is covered in blankets to recall the providence of her using a cloth to help Jesus after needing to change her own clothes regularly, before Jesus cured her 12-year-long bleeding.
A rose adorns the icon to recall that Jesus cured her bleeding condition because of her faith: “If I only touch His cloak, I will be healed.” “Take heart, daughter, your faith has healed you.”
